Caro Ray
Democratic Landscape
This work observes the legacy of democracy in Greece, as represented by my journey along the original marathon route which runs from Marathon to Athens. During September 2015 the third general elections of the year were taking place using classrooms as the backdrops to an integral moment in the history of Greek democracy. Each polling booth was photographed along the 42.2km (26.2miles) of this busy dual carriageway; the polling booths start acting as the road blocks to the betterment of the population. Part of this work includes a concertina book which requires the viewer to physically engage with as they attempt to navigate the object to open it to its full 11 metre length and consider the connections to a landscape in crisis.
