Happily Ever After
Imogen Cox is a fine art photographer from Middlesbrough. Imogen’s photography focuses on experimental narrative photography, using various techniques to create emotionally surreal images adapted from both fiction and her own experiences. Imogen’s current project is titled ‘Happily Ever After: or How Women are Portrayed in Fairytales’. This project looks at the original publications of fairytales and how women have been portrayed in roles of powerlessness. Imogen has adapted four tales to reflect issues contemporary women still face. The four stories that have been chosen are: Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Snow White. This has been reflected through a surreal style, displaying the emotional realities of womanhood and the roles they are expected to fulfil.
