A Look Within
This project delves into the intricate theme of estrangement through a unique lens, portraying individuals seeking a sense of belonging in unfamiliar environments. The project reflects the creator’s own experiences since moving from England to Belfast. Focussed on individuals moving from other parts of the UK, the methodology explores the alienation between the sitters and their surroundings, utilizing cinematic and architectural imagery, emphasizing entryways into their homes. The device of photographing subjects in their private spaces is key to exploring the barriers represented by the gaze through the windows. Through the juxtaposition of awkward poses and metaphorical barriers of the windows, the project seeks to convey the complexities of estrangement – capturing moments of vulnerability, separation, and longing.
