Chapter 3 Synopsis:
- Was undercurrent of threat at that historical period in Ireland.
- Overheard photographer being told to photograph victim's injured hand.
- Disillusioned by ethics of photographs made for paper.
- Also disillusioned by experience of being used as model for illustrative photographs.
- Had cycling accident, felt exploited by paper's use of pictures to report story.
- Concluded that photojournalism was a bit dirty and underhand and not what she wanted to do.
- Felt part of newspaper but at bottom of hierarchy.
- Old style drinking culture at newspaper.
- Sexist attitude to female photographer.
- Role of women in maintaining the newspaper archive replicated that in domestic and studio photography.
- Was using facilities and film at the newspaper to make her own photographs.
- Was friends with photographers Frank and Roseanne who were helpful.
- Learnt how to print but negatives were developed crudely by newspaper.
- Learnt a bit about politics but more about how to work in an office.
